With a track record of unique shopping, dining, and more in the heart of Cape May, the Washington Street Mall is one of the region's most popular destinations. As being within driving distance of some of the most populous areas of the country, parking around the Mall is very important. Even though we have a variety of parking options, sometimes you just want to make things easier. Luckily, with Cape May's Jitney service, you can!
The Jitney is a free shuttle service that travels a route throughout Cape May that can bring you to and from the Mall. The green and white busses can fit 13 passengers and are ADA compliant and climate controlled. In 2024, busses will operate from 4pm to 10pm on the following dates:
Memorial Day Weekend, Friday, May 24 through Monday, May 27
Fridays through Sundays, May 31 through June 9
Daily, Friday, June 14 through Monday, September 2
Fridays through Sundays, September 13 through October 27
Fridays through Sundays, November 29 through December 29
Two busses will travel the route in opposite directions, and will stop at any of the designated stops. Drivers may also stop if flagged down, but only if it is safe to do so. All stops throughout town are denoted by signage. Generally, a wait for a bus at a stop should not take more than 15-25 minutes at most. You can also download the Jitney Surfer app to track the Jitneys and to alert drivers that you want a pickup at your current location on the route. Please note that weather, traffic, the time of year, special events, and ridership numbers may alter the service or the route.
The stop for the Mall is located on Lyle Lane at Hill Walkway. This means you will end up right in the heart of the Mall!
The Jitney is a great option for those who may be staying a little further from the Mall in Cape May. You can use the Jitney to avoid having to walk or drive to the Mall, especially if the weather is not good or if you have small children with you. But for those traveling to the Mall from outside of Cape May, the Jitney can also work for you as well! Instead of having to pay for parking around the Mall, you can park for free and easy at the lot at Cape May Elementary School on Lafayette Street when school is not in session, and pick up the Jitney from there. Parking is also free in the areas of the Texas Avenue, Pittsburgh Avenue, and Wilmington Avenue stops. Additionally, parking along the beachfront east of Philadelphia Avenue is free after 5pm, so that is another location where you can park easily if coming to the Mall in the evening.
So next time you are visiting the Mall, consider the Jitney! It is easy and free and allows you to save some money on parking (which you can then spend in some of our fine shops and restaurants...wink-wink!).
